Azioni di informazione e promozione dei vini Gambellara DOC realizzate con il sostengo del Programma di Sviluppo Rurale per il Veneto 2014/2020
The Consortium of Gambellara’s wines protection, since 1972, a point of reference and guarantee for the production of D.O.C. wines: it works to promote and supervise them to guarantee the final consumer those physical and organoleptic characteristics of wine that only the hills of the D.O.C. Gambellara area can offer.
The Consortium is a quite small reality for the quantity of grape production: the vineyard’s D.O.C area, extended into four municipalities, is around one thousand herctares.
The Gambellara’s wine, enhanced by the consortium, could be found in three different types: “Gambellara”, “Gambellara Recioto” e “Gambellara Vin Santo” which, since a few years, are also presented with the specification “classico” to better identify the wine obtained from grapes of the hilly area at the mouth of the valley of Chiampo and slopes of Monti Lessini. Quality of wines is always been improved and optimized thanks to the Consortium’s projects and efforts helped by the enthusiasm and commitment of all producers, winemakers and bottlers.
After the submission of the project, strongly wanted by the producers in 2008 Recioto of Gambellara obtained the prestigious denomination DOCG (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin). This is a dessert renowned wine that, thanks to the numerous improvements made over the last decade by the producers both in the farming system of the vineyards and drying of selected grapes, is reaching very high quality levels rightly recognized by the market.
A project of considerable importance for pushing in new direction modern viticulture ended in 2004, and consists in the viticultural zoning of territory.
The denomination “Gambellara” is the only DOC in the Veneto region which produces Vin Santo and is a source of pride for the rich tradition and history tied to this particular wine.
Vin Santo has always been produced with maniacal care an it’s an excellent product with medicinal properties also (in the past decades it was given to convalescents or to women who had just given birth as reconstituent ).
In recent years, the consortium worked to support and develop the knowledge of this particular product, typical of the area, through the collaboration with the Centre of Biotechnology of University of Verona. After nearly seven years of studies finalized to improve the processes of drying and vinification of grapes, was discovered an unknown yeast responsible for fermentation which will be called Zygosaccharomyces gambellarensis.
